The austerity agenda means convincing the public that public services are a bloated nice-to-have. But Unison’s million-plus members know different. Our task was to cut through the rhetoric and make the case for investment in people, their wages, pensions, holiday cover and rights.
People don’t trust the government or the media. They trust people.
We don’t always don’t trust the government, the media or even institutions like unions. But we do trust people on the frontline of our schools, hospitals, law enforcement and other services. So the team at GOOD trawled every corner of the country to find eight public service workers who would be willing to share the impact austerity has had on their personal and professional lives, all in time for the local elections.
